Pear Butter

  • Author: Selina Progar

Description

A sweet and creamy pear butter for desserts or bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pears
  • 4 tbsp (1/2 stick) butter
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 whole cloves
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ cup brown sugar, and as needed to edit sweetness

Instructions

  1. Chop pears with core and skins.
  2. Place all ingredients in a large nonstick pan with a lid, and cook for 1 hour, or so, until the pears are soft and glossy. Stir occasionally.
  3. Remove cinnamon sticks. Blend using the emersion blender, blender, or food processor. Adjust sweetness.
  4. Place back on stovetop and continue to cook until desired thickness is reached. You should be able to run your spatula through the butter and leave a path.
  5. Stir occasionally and cool.
  6. Strain to remove skins and cool on ice bath.
