Freelance writer and bartender Drew Cranisky shows us, you can still enjoy a decent happy hour drink from home even if you can’t make it out. Try one (or both!) of these two classic cocktails; the Negroni Sbagliato and the Caipirinha. Each recipe will elevate your evening drink at home, or for an outdoor cookout this weekend.
What is Cachaça in the Caipirinha Recipe?
Cachaça is a unique Brazilian spirit that serves as the essential base for the Caipirinha, Brazil’s national cocktail. Though often mistaken for rum, cachaça has a distinct flavor profile. It is distilled directly from fresh, fermented sugarcane juice, whereas most rums are made from molasses, a byproduct of the sugar-making process. This key difference gives cachaça a noticeably less sweet, more grassy, and subtly vegetal taste.
