About the Opera:
Pittsburgh Opera presents the world premiere of Time to Act, a powerful new work that demonstrates how the performing arts can bring people together and help process grief and trauma.
Set in present-day America, a group of high school students prepares for a production of Sophocles’ Antigone. A new student, Alona, joins them carrying a formidable secret—one that is revealed after being triggered by a school safety drill.
The opera asks profound questions about responsibility, self-forgiveness, and acceptance. It explores how the arts can uplift and unify victims of trauma, empowering them to act while giving voice to the young citizens most impacted by ongoing cycles of school violence.
