To Adapt or Not to Adapt: Shakespeare and Democracy

December 16, O’Reilly Theater

James S. Shapiro, Author and Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, and Justin Emeka, Pittsburgh Public Theater Resident Director and Professor of Theater and Africana Studies at Oberlin College, come together for a conversation on Shakespeare’s place in today’s democracy. They’ll answer your questions on how the arts can be both our greatest asset and the most imperiled during this chaotic time. 

Holiday Brass Spectacular

December 17, Heinz Hall

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than a concert full of beautiful bass instruments. The brass section of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra explores Baroque favorites to new arrangements of all the holiday music you know and love. Sit back and bask in the sounds of the season. 

Cocktails & Conversations: A Woman’s Place

December 17, Heinz History Center

While we often hear about the men of Pittsburgh, what about the women who helped build this steel city? History Center President and CEO Andy Masich and A Woman’s Place exhibition curators Anne Madarasz, Leslie Przybylek, and Emily Ruby are here to tell you the tales of the brave women who made (and make) Pittsburgh what it is today. Plus, learn about their latest exhibit while enjoying a cash bar and following Q&A session.
