1534 Brighton Road

ShadoBeni, one of the North Side’s treasures, offers vegan Trinidadian fare from artist Ulric Joseph. Joseph takes his inspiration from the fact that in his childhood in Trinidad, food was medicine. He uses all-natural ingredients from local farms, and his roti, plantains, and pineapple chow are legendary.

Curry Mouth

1136 Thorn Run Road

There’s a new Trinidadian restaurant in town, as of early 2025. Curry Mouth recently opened in Coraopolis, where you can get roti, pelau, and pholourie (deep fried dough balls). Curry Mouth says of their mission that “Growing up in Trinidad, food was always a celebration, a vibrant thread in the fabric of our community that brought people together. It’s this sense of community and shared joy that we strive to recreate at Curry Mouth, fueled by our desire to provide wholesome foods, from the water we use to our handmade roti.”

Pauline’s Caribbean Soul Cuisine

Pauline’s is legendary among food scene insiders for its plantains and curried goat. Their jerk shrimp alfredo is mouthwatering—the meat is simmered to perfection, and you can practically smell the juices from the photos of their food.

Abby’s Jamaican & American Fusion Cuisine

2408 Reed Street

This neighborhood comfort food spot in the Hill District promises big portions and low prices. The jerk chicken fajitas, honey garlic chicken, and mac and cheese at Abby’s are hearty, filling, and make for a great midday lunch. Just remember to check the hours, as it’s a family-run business only open Wednesday to Friday 12PM to 8PM.
