5 Pittsburgh Events This Week (March 24-30)
Madama Butterfly
March 22-30, Benedum Center
Step into a special world where virtual reality and heartbreaking reality intersect in Pittsburgh Opera’s new production of Madama Butterfly. Created by an all-Japanese and Japanese American creative team, this innovative staging explores Pinkerton’s detachment as he uses a VR headset to control his fantasy. But for Cio-Cio San, the love and betrayal are devastatingly real in this famous opera.
12 Ophelias (a play with broken songs)
March 26-30, Pittsburgh Playhouse
Shakespeare’s Ophelia, reborn in the Appalachian Mountains, finds herself in a world both familiar and utterly transformed. Dreaming of Pop-Tarts and other sweet escapes, she navigates a neo-Elizabethan setting where Gertrude runs a brothel and Hamlet is a Rude Boy. In this mirrored world of fragmented language and shifting identities, Ophelia carves a new path, breaking free from her tragic fate.

You can even enhance your experience with workshops, an after-hours event, or a delightful tea party.
