Whether you have the whole family in tow, or you’re a big kid at heart, these Pennsylvania farms prove to be prime spots to unwind, adventure and sample the region’s freshest bounty.
Fall Farm Fun Near Pittsburgh
Janoski’s Farm & Greenhouse
Expose young shoppers to the important concept, “buying local” at this Clinton outpost that’s home to a market, greenhouse and garden center. Year-round the farm sells forty-plus varieties of produce grown on 200 acres. Autumn also brings Pumpkinland, and other anticipated autumnal activities.
Soergel Orchards
This all-year venue in Wexford touts itself as being, “a country store and so much more.” Bring the family for visits with farm animals (kids), refreshing sips from Arsenal Cider House (adults) and sweet treats from Perry’s Ice Cream (everyone). Look out for seasonal events like Lantern Walks and Homegrown Happy Hour sessions that shuttle you around the property (via wagon ride), featuring history lessons, apps and drinks along the way. Stay tuned for the family-centric harvest festivals of fall, too!
Trax Farms
In Finleyville, this 150-year-old farm claims to be one of the oldest and most-awarded fruit and vegetable farms in Pittsburgh and the South Hills. Stop in for seasonal delights to enjoy in the backyard with the whole family. Load up on sweet corn, homemade deli salads, and fresh-from-the-oven pies, yum!
Triple B Farms
Fifteen miles from downtown, this Monongahela property has been welcoming families since 1985. Load up on goods amid the sweet, fresh, country air (think fruits and veggies, freshly baked treats, homemade fudge, local honey, gift baskets and more!). Pop’s Farmyard entertains the tots with acres of summertime fun—featuring animals, giant board games, jumping pillows and tunnel slides.
Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm
This third-generation, family-owned farm in Edinboro has sold high-quality bison meat to customers for thirty-one years. Many bison roam the farm for guests’ viewing pleasure. Plus, the gift shop offers bison-themed products like jewelry, souvenirs and stuffed animals. Kids anxiously await the opening of a daily corn maze on August 9. Not to mention the small petting zoo (with friendly donkeys and goats) is always a huge draw, too.
