Kids Activities for a Rainy Day in Pittsburgh

When the kids can’t go outside to play on a rainy Pittsburgh day, they can feel tense and cooped up in the house. But, there are plenty of activities around the city that keep you out of the rain and thoroughly entertained. Whether you’re looking for something creative and artsy, relaxing, or full of adrenaline, we have just the perfect place to spend your day. Each place caters to a wide age range to make sure both you and your kids have the most fun possible.

Fired Up Art Studio

Let your child’s creativity fly at Fired Up Art Studio. Here they can pick out pottery to paint, create a fused glass art piece, paint a canvas, handcraft clay sculptures, and make tiled mosaic pieces. The only limit here is your imagination.

Mattress Factory

You’ve probably been to the Carnegie Museum of Art but have you ever taken in the unique collections at the Mattress Factory? This contemporary art museum has the coolest and weirdest art installations available in three different buildings clustered on the North Side. You never know what you’ll see with a number of changing exhibits among permanent ones.

Liberty Magic

You don’t have to travel to Vegas to see a stellar magic show! Liberty Magic features a rotating schedule of magicians displaying card tricks, up-close magic, and much more. Shows take place Wednesday through Sunday so stop by and be mystified.

Manor Theatre

Skip the corporate movie theater chains and support Squirrel Hill’s independent theater instead. Manor Theatre plays all the most popular new releases along with a few classics from time to time. From the second you step into the entryway, you’re flooded with the nostalgia by red felt floors and the smell of buttered popcorn.

Pins Mechanical Co.

What could be better on a rainy day than bowling? Though at Pins Mechanical Co. this isn’t your regular bowling, it’s duck-pin bowling. Duck-pin bowling uses a small, handheld ball and shorter, stubbier pins. The goal is to knock down as many pins as you can in three throws each frame.

Full Throttle Adrenaline Park

Let your kids get some of their energy out at Full Throttle Adrenaline Park. This indoor center includes high speed go-karting, axe throwing, and arcade games. Plus, guests 16 years or older can head into the rage room and destroy a room full of smashable products.
