The creativity of artists deserve opening parties to match and Contemporary Craft’s celebration of Keiko Fukazawa Retrospective: The Space in Between is no exception. Those in the city of Pittsburgh were able to take in an exclusive look at this new collection as well as hear about the background of the show itself. We take an inside look at the fun and artistic learning that comes from such a fabulous celebration.
Keiko Fukazawa Retrospective: The Space in Between looked at California-based Keiko Fukazawa’s more than forty-year career, featuring new works alongside selected archival materials. Deeply influenced by her Japanese heritage and by the American environment in which she lives and works, her art addresses themes of Asian pop culture and social issues through conceptual exploration. Her use of porcelain opens new artistic relevance for ceramics. Attendees of the opening on February 7, 2025 had Pittsburgh’s first glimpse of this exciting and innovative show. Executive Director Rachel Saul Rearick and Board Chair Alexander Neal, as well as the artist herself, greeted guests throughout the evening. Also among the enthusiastic crowd was former Executive Director Janet McCall.
