“The Perfect Mate” Musical Premieres in Pittsburgh

What if you could design the perfect partner? You could pick their hair color and style, their main features, and even the way their thoughts work. It sounds like a dream come true in every way. But, maybe a perfect romance isn’t all that perfect. That’s what Joan Sweete has to figure out in The Perfect Mate, a new rom-com musical presented by the Pittsburgh CLO.

Starting on February 4 at the Greer Cabaret Theater and running through March 17, The Perfect Mate combines science-fiction with goofy romance. The musical is written by Dan Lipton and David Rossmer after years of working closely together on other productions like MONOPOLY and They Don’t Let You in the Opera. As a part of Kara Cabaret Series, The Perfect Mate makes its world premiere through the Pittsburgh CLO after originally being commissioned as part of the SPARK Festival in 2018.

An Unexpected Robot-Human Love Story

The Perfect Match comes just in time for Valentine’s Day and the love story it tells will have you laughing and smiling your way through the whole show. The story follows old-school romantic Joan Sweete (Autumn Hurlbert) in the year 2063 as she tries to navigate the ups and downs of an android-focused, non-monogamous future. So when the opportunity arrives to create her Perfect Match partner, how could she say no? And, everything seems great at first when the emotionally savvy, humanoid man shows up to her door… Maybe a little too great.

Meet the Cast

The cast is led by Autumn Hurlbert who plays Joan, and Jimmy Nicholas who plays the Perfect Mate. Both of these actors are excited to be working with the Pittsburgh CLO after working on Broadway and TV in productions. Autumn recently performed in the national tours of Little Women and Legally Blonde while Jimmy took on the roles of Chief Evan Hawkins in Chicago Fire and Elder Price’s standby in The Book of Mormon. The two have both learned skills from their various projects that they hope to highlight in this production. The rest of the cast stars Josey Miller as Susan, Marissa Buchheit as Moya, Ryan Cavanaugh as Man, and Laura Frye and Connor Bahr as swings.

Grab your tickets to The Perfect Mate at the Pittsburgh CLO’s website either as a Valentine’s Day celebration or just a fun night out with friends. Not only do you get to support a world premiere of a musical but you’ll get to experience what it feels like to date in the year 2063.
