About the Performance:
Flamenco Pittsburgh opens its second season with Duende: A Flamenco Journey. The theme of the season is duende—a essential term in the flamenco lexicon. It encompasses passion, inspiration, and the spirit artists exude while performing. Artists with duende have vast life and artistic experiences behind them.
This 75‑minute show features the Flamenco Pittsburgh Ensemble and guest artists:
-
Edwin Aparicio (Washington, D.C.) – Dancer
-
Alfonso Cid (New York, NY) – Singer
-
Ricardo Marlow (Washington, D.C.) – Guitarist
From the Artistic Director:
“Flamenco came into my life early on,” says Artistic Director Carolina Loyola‑Garcia. “The more I study, the more I learn. The more I immerse myself, the more it reveals. Duende is hard to define, but you know it when you’re in it. It can manifest during rehearsals, classes, or a performance where everything clicks with musicians and dancers. You’re present in the moment, able to channel and communicate feelings with the audience.”
