Event Category: Art & Culture
Listing Description:
A new exhibit is opening at The Frick Pittsburgh featuring narratives of racism during the Civil War that went unnoticed. Kara Walker’s Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated) challenges the traditional stories of the Civil War we’ve heard through a series of 15 powerful prints. Walker reimagines historical representations found in the 1866 anthology Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War by overlaying enlarged woodcut plates with her signature black silhouette figures.
