About the Concert:
KST’s annual Tribute Concert series returns with a soul-stirring celebration of Marvin Gaye. Led by musical director Jerome O. Kirkland, Jr. , this evening brings together Pittsburgh’s finest vocalists and musicians to reimagine Gaye’s legendary catalog.
From What’s Going On and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough to Let’s Get It On, Marvin Gaye’s music transcends rhythm and blues. He used his artistry as a vehicle for social commentary, addressing civil rights, environmental justice, anti-war sentiment, and Black power. This tribute honors not only his musical brilliance but also the ways Black artists have shaped cultural and social change through sound.
