About the Exhibition:
For their collaborative presentation, Martínez Garay and Kameya examine Peruvian identity through the lens of colonial legacy. They consider how state power, cultural extraction, and historical narratives shape collective memory.
Both artists are known for creating evocative environments:
-
Kameya’s Opaque Spirits (2024) transformed a museum into a haunting reflection on state failure and spiritual afterlife.
-
Garay’s Wakchakuna (2024) evokes an excavated grave, with objects emerging from soil, sand, and rubble.
This exhibition is presented in collaboration with Carnegie Museum of Art as part of the 59th Carnegie International.
