PSO’s Assistant Conductors Moon Doh and Jacob Joyce share the Pittsburgh musical celebrations they’re marking on their calendars for 2024.
Musical Celebrations of Pittsburgh in 2024
From Moon Doh
Juneteenth Celebration
Downtown, June 14-16
I had a chance to experience Pittsburgh’s Juneteenth celebrations for the very first time last year. This year’s celebration builds on that success, with Pittsburgh boasting the biggest Juneteenth celebration in the nation.
Tosca
Pittsburgh Opera, Benedum Center, Downtown, October 5, 8, 11, 13
Pittsburgh has many cultural gems and the Pittsburgh Opera is certainly one of them. I have always enjoyed attending performances at the Benedum or at the Bitz Opera Factory in the Strip. I cannot wait to see and hear Puccini’s Tosca in October.
The Nutcracker
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Benedum Center, Downtown, December 6-27
What would December be without The Nutcracker? A perennial favorite, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre‘s The Nutcracker ballet offers a visual and aural experience that is unparalleled in its grandeur and artistry. A seasonal must!
From Jacob Joyce
Bruce Springsteen
PPG Paints Arena, Downtown, August 15 & 18
I am particularly looking forward to this concert because I grew up listening to Bruce Springsteen, and the first non-classical concert I ever attended was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Darkness to Light: Manfred & Mahler 5
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Heinz Hall, Downtown, June 7-9
I am excited to hear the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra play Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in June. It is one of my favorite pieces ever composed, and I can’t think of an orchestra I would rather hear it from than the mighty PSO.
