Step Afrika! presents its signature work, The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence, a visually stunning and rhythmically pulsating journey that charts the Great Migration of African Americans in the early 1900s.
Inspired by Jacob Lawrence’s iconic 60-panel painting series, the performance uses percussive dance, song, and audience participation to transform this profound historical narrative into a captivating artistic experience. Step Afrika! blends traditional African dances, contemporary movement, and the unique stepping styles of Black fraternities and sororities into a cohesive and energetic performance that is more than a dance show.
