Pittsburgh CLO Shares its 2024 Summer Offerings

Fall may have just begun, but the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera has its eyes and ears on summer 2024. Starting mid-May and running through early September, the local theater company is set to present six shows across three downtown venues: the Benedum Center, Greer Cabaret Theater, and the Byham Theater.

Kicking off the season is Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. The musical by Lanie Robertson takes audience members back in time to 1959 on the eve of one of Billie Holiday’s last performances.

Following that are two classics: West Side Story and The Color Purple. Then, the Pittsburgh CLO dives into comedic musical territory with Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man and Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein. Finally, the season culminates with a magical, family-friendly performance of Seussical: The Musical.

“Seeing the joy of our audiences this past summer, their applause, and shared love of live musical theatre is what’s making this journey so rewarding,” Mark Fleischer, Executive Producer, Pittsburgh CLO, says in a press release. “We are excited to share a change that we believe will elevate our audience’s theatre experience and bring even more variety and excitement to our stages.

For those looking to indulge in musical theater ahead of 2024, Pittsburgh CLO’s 2023 lineup includes tick, tick…BOOM!, an autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer of RENT, which runs until October 22, and two holiday shows in December. The month starts with Who’s Holiday at Greer Cabaret Theater, followed by A Musical Christmas Carol at the Byham Theater.
