At Café Momentum Pittsburgh, a meal is more than an opportunity to gather—it is an investment in young people and the futures they are working to build. The nonprofit restaurant in Downtown Pittsburgh provides paid internships and comprehensive support for youth ages 15 to 19 who have been impacted by the youth legal system. Through hands-on experience in a restaurant setting, interns develop job skills, earn income, and discover what they can accomplish when a community believes in them.
About Café Momentum Pittsburgh
The restaurant is the vessel, but the work reaches far beyond the kitchen: Café Momentum Pittsburgh exists to help justice-impacted youth move forward with confidence and options through culinary training, education, and holistic support.
Programs & Impact
Alongside culinary and hospitality training, interns receive individualized support with education, mental health, transportation, financial literacy, and career exploration. They practice communicating, solving problems, navigating conflict, and taking responsibility in an environment that pairs clear expectations with consistent care. Whether their next step is college, a trade, or employment in another field, the organization focuses on building a foundation for stability.
In 2025, Café Momentum Pittsburgh served 77 young people, who collectively completed more than 10,500 paid hours. Interns earned 56 certifications, opened 19 bank accounts, and celebrated eight high school diplomas. These milestones reflect the daily work of showing up, learning new skills, and building self-reliance. Progress also shows up in moments that numbers cannot capture: an intern asking for help, trusting a mentor, or beginning to imagine a future that once felt out of reach.
Get Involved
This giving season, community members are invited to invest in Pittsburgh’s young people. Supporters can make a donation, join Café Momentum Pittsburgh for a meal, and help create a community where opportunity is accessible and potential has room to flourish. Together, the community can help young people build futures defined by their possibilities, goals, and aspirations.
How Support Helps
Community generosity makes this work possible. Financial donations help fund paid internships and the essential supports that allow young people to participate, learn, and grow. Every gift can help put transportation, a nourishing meal, counseling, or an encouraging adult within reach when it matters most.
