About The Allegheny County Parks Foundation

The Allegheny County Parks Foundation strengthens the health and vibrancy of the community by improving, conserving, and restoring the nine Allegheny County Parks. Working in partnership with Allegheny County, the Parks Foundation brings together ideas, leadership, and resources to make the parks more sustainable and enjoyable for all.

Programs & Impact

As the Allegheny County Parks Foundation approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, the organization is reflecting on two decades of impact and partnership. Together with its supporters, the Parks Foundation has invested $42 million directly into Allegheny County’s nine parks through more than 290 completed or ongoing projects.

At North Park, the Foundation is helping restore the historic Observation Tower, a 1937 landmark standing 102 feet tall, preserving this unique piece of park history for future generations. The organization is also completing the final Ecological Assessment and Action Plan for the nine parks, creating a comprehensive blueprint to guide conservation, restoration, and improvement projects for years to come.

In 2026, the Parks Foundation received the largest grant in its history: $10.65 million for the Pinkertons Run Abandoned Mine Treatment at Settlers Cabin Park. The project will address abandoned mine drainage, remediate and improve abandoned mine land, and create a new trail connection to the Panhandle Trail.

Get Involved

Community members can help shape the next 20 years of impact on the county parks. Supporters can make a gift to the Parks Foundation or get involved by volunteering to help protect and improve the places that make the region a better place to live, explore, and connect. Together, the community and Foundation can ensure the parks continue to be places of connection, respite, and recreation for generations to come.

How Support Helps

Every donation makes a visible impact in the county parks: planting trees, repairing trails, conserving natural landscapes, and restoring historic landmarks. Because Allegheny County matches most funds the Parks Foundation raises, every contribution doubles the donor’s power to transform the parks and the region.

The Allegheny County Parks Foundation improves, conserves, and restores the nine county parks by protecting nature, restoring history, and creating accessible, sustainable spaces that enrich millions of lives every year.
