At Madeleine George in Shadyside, store co-owners Nicole Rabner and Stacy Cohen know you want to wear Marfa Stance’s new collection this fall — even if you might not yet.
In 2017, the pair combined their entrepreneurial spirit with their love of fashion to bring luxe, stylish, and accessible women’s clothing to Pittsburgh. Almost a decade later, Rabner and Cohen have perfected their ability to find and select the best brands. The store is filled with stunning, elevated looks from cool, high-quality brands like The Garment, Citizens of Humanity, Self-Portrait, including gorgeous knits, great denim, and everything from evening wear to gym clothes.
Marfa Stance’s Fall Collection Debuts in Pittsburgh at Madeleine George in Shadyside
Naturally, their passion for exciting new brands with a great ethos led Rabner and Cohen to fall in love with Marfa Stance. The outerwear brand, founded in 2019 by designer Georgia Dant, is modular and reversible.
Dant, who led design teams at Burberry and Rag & Bone, saw firsthand how rapid trend cycles rendered otherwise quality and beautiful pieces “unfashionable.” Inspired by a visit to minimalist artist Donald Judd’s architecture studio in Marfa, Texas, Dant created a brand with a similar appreciation of craft, merging style and function.
Marfa Stance outerwear is built for different climates, occasions, and moods, with detachable and interchangeable hoods, liners, and collars transforming one impeccably-crafted jacket season after season. The only fast thing about this fashion is how quickly you’ll love it.
Marfa Stance’s fall trunk show tour will be at Madeleine George from November 12-13. Attendees will be able to see these stunning, intricate designs in person; experiment with pieces to create their perfect “do-it-all” coat; learn from and meet Marfa Stance’s team; and enjoy a fun shopping day on Walnut Street. Rest assured, Madeleine George items will still be available during the pop-up.
Modular Jackets to “Do-It-All,” Just in Time for Winter Fun
Rabner first discovered Marfa Stance in a New York City boutique, purchasing her first one in March at their new Aspen brick-and-mortar.
“I was blown away,” Rabner said. “They’re functional, they’re unique, and I love that [Dant] is doing something different.”
After striking up a conversation with a sales associate, Rabner made it known she would love some kind of collaboration with them. Luckily, Dant’s team were more than willing to partner, according to Rabner.
Why You Should Visit
Rabner and Cohen are excited to bring this opportunity to Pittsburgh, especially since it comes at the perfect time: By mid-November, the weather starts to shift, making it a great time for new outerwear before the holidays.
“I’m really excited they want to come to Pittsburgh,” Cohen said. “Marfa Stance sees real potential in Pittsburgh, and I think it speaks volumes for our city. We’re getting this wonderful national reputation. This is a really great city. I’m excited they see it as well.”
The event will run Thursday, November 12 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Register on the website and follow Madeleine George on Instagram for more updates.
