Giving Guide 2024: The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh

The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center is an independent non-profit organization that supports children and families through six unique programs: The Pediatric Specialty Hospital, Child’s Way Daycare for medically fragile children, Adoption & Permanency, Pediatric VIEW, Therapy Services and Counseling Services. Our goal is to make sure every person who walks through our doors feels empowered whether it be to take care of their medically fragile child, or to make a life changing decision. We’re here to support the community, our family.

Their mission is to promote the health and well-being of infants and children through services that establish and strengthen the family. Some of their programs include Adoption & Permanency Services, Child’s Way®, the Pediatric Specialty Hospital, the Pediatric VIEW Program, Therapy services and Counseling. In addition to these programs, they offer free housing for patients and families in their on-site Lemieux Family Center.

Each year The Children’s Home provides over $4 million dollars in charitable care across all of their programs. This ensures that all families of children who are admitted to The Pediatric Specialty Hospital never see a bill for their stay. It allows families to stay for free in the Lemieux Family center when their child needs care. It allows affordable daycare for kids who need medical support while in their care. They provide life changing services for children with children with CVI and help to expand their functional vision to improve their quality of life. The Children’s Home empowers families to be the experts in their child’s care and looks at things through a holistic lens.

Readers can help in so many ways. They can make a meaningful donation that can help provide care to children within The Children’s Home’s programs. People can volunteer, either individually or with a group. They can give a donation through their employer with United Way. They can purchase items for the children on their Amazon wish list to make sure all of the kids have holiday gifts. Groups can even host a third party fundraiser such as a spaghetti dinner or a baby shower that benefits the kids in their programs. Or, they can leave a legacy gift either independently through their financial advisor or through The Children’s Home’s partner, Free Will.
