Try a Self-Love Facial Steam

Featured in our Recipe of Rituals series, Alison Garber shared her Self-Love Facial Steam. This is a ritual blending herbs and intention to turn everyday care into sacred practice. Land Spirits is the life’s work of Alison Garber, an ancestral herbalist and hedgewitch. As a hedgewitch, Alison travels the wild in-between spaces—those edges potent with medicine—and harvests Green Elders through a deep connection with the land. Through Land Spirits, she teaches regular workshops on the healing magick of herbs. She also creates vibrant wild-foraged remedies, meets with clients, and leads plant walks that highlight the medicinal herbs growing abundantly in our region.

As a witch, Alison frames every action with ritual in mind. She describes ritual as “stepping into a space that is separate from the mundane. Ritual marks time, creating a container for reverence and revolution.” Daily woodland walks, plant-spirit remedies for clients, or cooking dinner for her family all become rituals. Each act is intentional, designed to connect her and her loved ones with the Sacred.

For those who want to explore more deeply, Alison offers Wisdom Sessions. These provide personalized energetic insights into a healing journey. She explains, “During our time together, I call upon ancestral traditions of plant magick and tarot to uncover any soul messages that wish to come through.” Participants receive practical suggestions and a ritual tailored to their goals. In addition, Alison co-hosts Ask a Hag, a podcast with Leslie McAllister, where the Hags answer listener questions using their knowledge as healers and witches. It’s a space for curiosity, conversation, and connection.

  • Author: Alison Garber

Description

A soothing floral facial steam designed to refresh your skin, clear your mind, and invite self-love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp dried lavender
  • 2 tbsp dried rose petals
  • 2 tbsp dried calendula
  • A large bowl
  • 10 oz water
  • A towel
  • Rose water

Make sure the dried flowers are food-grade.

Instructions

  1. First, set the mood of your space — candles, low lighting, and soft music can be so soothing.
  2. Then, gather the dried flowers in a large bowl.
  3. Position the bowl on a table so you can lean over it comfortably.
  4. Next, bring 10 oz of water to a boil. Add the boiled water to the bowl, and allow it to cool for one minute.
  5. Cover your head with the towel, and lean your beautiful face over the steam.
  6. Breathe in the floral scent and allow your mind to clear.
  7. Once you feel your skin and heart are refreshed, remove the towel and gently pat your face dry.
  8. Finally, follow up with rose water for some extra self-love.
